Amidst a world pandemic, we believe in finding good and positive treasures around us to keep us inspired, motivated and ready for any challenge that may cross our route.
Spice Route Destination has always been our small treasure on the slopes of Paarl mountain. Over the years we have evolved, innovated and grew. With only a small percentage of our staff that are currently able to work on the farm, we look forward to the days, and we hope it will be soon, where we can feel the freedom the farm brought to so many families and friends in the past.
Our farm has since become a haven for little squirrels to run free, flowers to bloom and our grass to grow evergreen and awaiting the kiddie’s little footprints to stomp in the mud, run and play. Since lockdown and some restrictions that have been lifted, we have been fortunate to be able to open up La Grapperia for you to come and grab a pizza; Pop-up a Trading Company shop for you to enjoy on your walkabout, take-home items such as chocolates from De Villiers Chocolate, fresh spices from Brenda’s Deli and craft beer from Cape Brewing Company and Hero Adventure’s MTB trails for a fun and adrenaline-filled outdoorsy day. With the recent announcement of moving the country into level 2, guests are also able to relax outside on the pergola with a glass of Spice Route Wines enjoyed with one of Chef Neil Jewell’s gourmet charcuterie platters.
We look forward to sharing these small treasures with you when you visit Spice Route Destination.

Spice Route Wines
The new age of the Swartland commenced in 1997, when Charles Back stumbled across an old Tobacco farm, called Klein Amoskuil. Bewildered by the quality of grapes in a region better known for its wheat and rolling fynbos hills, the potential was obvious. Charles set forth to acquire the farm and study its soils and extreme climate. Hence, Spice Route Winery was born. The hand-crafted wines were brought from the Swartland to Spice Route Destination in Paarl, to be enjoyed by all. With their recently added natural wine range, Obscura, guests can enjoy a fine wine tasting paired with a charcuterie platter in a rustic underground tasting room, or outside under the pergola, while enjoying the panoramic views of Table Mountain and the Simonsberg Mountain range.
Trading hours: Friday to Sunday from 10:00 – 17:00 (last orders at 16:30)
Before or after taking the pathway to/from the Destination, drop in at Brenda’s Deli for sensory stimulation. As you enter the Deli, the smell of spices envelops you to evoke images of bustling North African souks, markets, and aromatic dishes such as a Tunisian tagine and Moroccan teapots. Mix your blend of spices and create ‘flavour adventures’ for your next dinner party. Brenda’s Deli products and preserves are additive-free and made from fresh, natural ingredients.
Trading hours: Monday to Sunday from 09:00 – 17:00
De Villiers Chocolate
Chocolate making was initially a hobby that took off in a garage with machines built from recycled home appliances. It then led to the discovery of the richness and diversity of single-origin chocolate. The De Villiers Chocolate team’s journey soon developed into a chocolate obsession that continues to this day. The team’s passion for artisanal and handcrafted food led them, almost naturally, to making coffee and homemade ice cream as well. Guests are welcomed with a complimentary homemade hot chocolate upon arrival and can purchase their selection of unique chocolate bars and gluten-free ice cream.
Trading hours: Friday to Sunday from 09:00 – 17:00

Situated close to La Grapperia and next to DV Café, The Trading Company has taken the space as a trendy pop-up shop filled with a melange of colourful, fresh and artistic items. With an array of carefully selected bespoke homeware and handpicked local jewellery – with pieces that have a spiritual message and are perfect for gifting – the store is a celebration of local design.
