A pairing to remember at Bellevue Estate

Bellevue Wine Estate is nestled 10 minutes from the bustling N1. The rolling hills that surround the estate act like a sort of barrier from the busy city sounds and transport you to peaceful wine country.

Our long (very long) Cape Town summer has had us looking for the best spots to lounge around each weekend while ticking off our bucket lists when it comes to the very best food and wine that our gorgeous city has to offer and I have an offering you surely wouldn’t want to miss.

I see you are still here (of course! who doesn’t like pizza!)

Bellevue Estate is famous for their wines and more specifically their Pinotage. You can read all about this gorgeous estate and the wines on offer by following along to my previous visit where we had a lunch and wine tasting to remember. Each of the wines on offer show cases the winemakers complete passion for what he does and we salute him for it.

We began our meal with freshly baked breads and a harvest style meat and cheese platter before we were taken through each of the wines on offer. The Tasting Room Manager spoke about his love for each of the wines and promoted a sense of fulfilment and passion he shares with each of the Bellevue employee’s.

I would highly recommend a wine tasting before you dive into the pizza offering as you can familiarise yourself with the front runners from the estate and see if there are combinations that you can come up with too.

A good afternoon for me definitely includes a seat under the old oak trees of the Stellenbosch wine country, a hot cheesy bubbling slice of pizza in one hand and a chilled glass of Cinsaut in the other. Luckily for me they had the Bellevue Cinsaut on ice and a delicious pizza pairing with it that had all my favourite pizza toppings on it.

We sat enjoying every bite and it is definitely worth the slow leisurely drive back into the city just before the food coma sets in.

Each pizza on the menu at Bellevue is named after a particular wine produced by the estate. This is makes for a wine and pizza pairing that has been carefully thought through by the Chef as well as a few combination you wouldn’t expect. He rolls up the carpet on the traditional and shows flair with flavour combination that are sure to wow even the most adventurous pizza eater.
