Incredible Incognito and Blushing Blanko

Incredible Incognito and Blushing Blanko

Constantia, look out! The latest trendy hotspot has landed. Nestled very inconspicuously behind the well-loved Blanko restaurant on the Alphen property is the brand new Incognito Cocktail bar. This summer, come out and play at this sophisticated lounge bar that is sure to have you clinking a few of their signature cocktails in joy during the festive season.

The interior is a gorgeous mix of bold print, brass brushed metallic’s and plush lounge chairs ranging from deep sea foam greens to dark navy tones. The wrap around window offers a gorgeous bright setting which brings the perfectly manicured grounds of the Alphen hotel in while you sip on the house cocktails. Urban, sophisticated and stylist are three words that will become synonymous with this seductive location.

The Kove Collection is famous for creating new cocktails that patrons will mollycoddle and pamper the taste buds. With an impressive drinks menu, Incognito dabbles in the world of experimental and innovative while tailor making a cocktail to your specific flavour profiles. The spirit of 2018 – Gin definitely shines brightly as there are a few cocktails that have this hero ingredient in it. Bright, fun and uber tasty – Incognito definitely knows what they are doing.

Designed as an alleviating hot spot for after work drinks, the menu boasts delicious bar snacks that are great for nibbling on in between cocktails. If you are an olive lover then the fried stuffed olives will quite literally change your life. The lightly fried calamari arrives at your table with a golden crumb while gorgonzola cheese is meticulously wrapped in a cured meat blanket and finished with a drizzle of olive oil. Gone are the days of boring bar nuts while you sip on a cocktail and wish for something super tasty.

“Incognito is ringing in summer with weekend line-up sunset sessions from top Cape Town DJ’s on Fridays and Saturdays 17:00-21:00 until 21 April 2019. Friday nights are Secret nights, with vibey, accessible tunes – with a sprinkling of classics – setting the tone for the perfect Cape Town weekend. Saturdays are Studio 54-themed, with timeless, classy classics from our DJ’s, making for an upbeat weekend highlight. Patrons can also enjoy the smoothing sounds of local jazz every Sunday from 3-6pm.”

Relax and unwind at Incognito before you make your way over to Blanko for dinner. Just a few short steps around the corner and you are transported to a completely different surrounding. The old world historical skeleton of Blanko is the backbone of the contemporary and comfortable interior. The large wooden door frames remain as an ode to the generations past, as the bright white interior houses a few intimate dining areas making it unique rather than an open plan restaurant.

With quirky art pieces, sculptures and lighting dotted throughout Blanko, this truly is a restaurant that feels like a home away from home.

The menu boasts Mediterranean inspired foods. Uncomplicated in the flavour profiles, tasty and fresh ingredients. The menu changes seasonally so this summer the menu offers an undertone of vibrancy with a newfangled take on the classics.

We ordered the large prawns grilled to perfection with a kiss of fresh lemon juice and the classic Veal Tonnato (which I ate multiple times on my recent trip to Germany.)  Both dishes were expertly prepared. The Kove Collection really is an establishment that has truly perfected their starter course. I would be very happy to order a multitude of starters to accompany their exquisite wine list.

The main course had our mouths watering. I ordered the gorgeously prepared Escallop of Veal in traditional breadcrumbs, salsa verde and accompanied by crispy fries. Natalie enjoyed the fresh Sea Bass with olives, rosemary, lemon and baby potatoes. A light meal as we sipped on our favourite Glen Carlou Chardonnay.

How could we end the evening other than on a sweet note? The Yoghurt Panna Cotta with an apricot purée, honeycomb and pine nuts was the perfect light dessert to end the evening on. With the tart apricot cutting the subtle sweetness, this is the ideal dessert if you don’t have a sweet tooth. I could not resist the chocolate pavlova with orange curd, coffee crumble and frozen yoghurt…spectacular!
