La Parada Del Mar is set on the cosmopolitan Camps Bay Beach road. With a typically Spanish touch, this is your one stop tapas, girls night out or date night hot spot. Although La Parada is part of the well-known group of restaurants, this one, has a unique twist and flair for flavourful, delicious and clever food, that will undoubtedly have you coming back for more…and yes…I went two nights in a row!
The old world Cuban style interior mixes well with the minimalistic clean lines of the interior. The woven chairs and large battered tables add a classic touch to an already sophisticated atmosphere. The windows looking out onto the iconic Camps Bay beach are lined with shutters and allow the sea breeze to cool you down on these unbearably hot summer days.
The menu is truly inspired. It is thoughtfully put together with a Spanish flair for the classics and a spark of originality, by well versed Chef Martin Senekal, Exective Chef of La Parada. He knows the brand and that is why this restaurant is so popular in the Cape Town food scene.
I can strongly vouch for the fact, that no one will be disappointed with the food, quality or friendly service…especially if you get Phumza to look after you for the evening. Only the freshest ingredients are responsibly sourced. There are favourites, as well as new flavours like smoked tomatoes and charred octopus (MY FAVOURITE DISH OF ALL TIME!!!) to choose from.
You will not have to wait for your order as fresh bread and butter will be served before your main course or tapas menu selection. You are guaranteed a memorable evening between the deliciously made cocktails, the chilled wine, attentive staff or the flowing conversation.
The freshest seafood is what Chef Martin and his team wanted to emulate at La Parada Del Mar. With unpretentious sauces to cover all the natural flavour, the concept of naturally salty with added uncomplicated twists, is what makes this the perfect day or night out. Grilled prawns, lightly dusted calamari, lemony ceviche, steamed mussels and lightly seared seafood makes every dish light and playful.
If seafood isn’t on your list of dishes to enjoy, there is a meat lovers menu that is sure to cater to any craving. I definitely recommend the lamb rump, perfectly tender and served with seasonal vegetables and attentively cooked potatoes.
If its a sweet note your looking to end your meal, then interesting new flavours or Crema Catalana classics are all found on the menu. Homemade custards, mousses and traditional biscuits are served alongside the dessert options.
