Luscious lunch at The Lawns

The Cape Town summer has been absolutely relentless and seems to have no end in site, so what better way to soak up the rays of sunshine than a new summer Hot Spot to add to your list of hangouts. Nestled in-between the lush and overgrown trees of the Lions Head mountain pass is the famous Roundhouse. Synonymous with the seasonal markets, incredible food and of course a weekend hang out that ticks all the boxes this hidden gem is the place to be!

The lawns is a multi facetted space with tons of space to sprawl out and enjoy time with family and friends. The canopies of oak trees guard from the harsh summer sun, whilst the birds chirp, the light breeze cools you off and the smell of the daily specials fills the air as you gaze onto the crystal clear coastline.

The menu boasts traditional summery favourites that are perfect to nibble on while lounging out on the lawns, or dive into something more filling and substantial with the huge selection of appetisers, burgers or sharing platters. Head Chef Alain Fredericks has devised a menu that is sure to impress everyone in the family, the food and wine snob uncle all the way to the younger niece only interested in tumbling down the hills.

An extensive wine list which flaunts the world famous Cape winelands offers the very best in the regions cultivars. If wine isn’t your thing then you can choose from the considerable cocktails, craft beer and spirit list. From Cape Town’s craft Gins to worldly prominent whisky’s, the Lawns has something for you!

Looking for something a little more private? Just a minute walk from the prolific lawns is a circumscribed deck encompassed with abundant vegetation that creates a private deck. Dubbed the sunset deck (and for good reason,) this private area has an exclusive bar, Instagramable swing and offers the most exquisite views across the ocean and along the coastline on a clear day.

The popular Lawns market’s are a favoured and well desired attraction. As Cape Townians, we are always looking for a market on the weekends; offering a pet friendly location to enjoy the summer evenings with a gorgeous view of our city.  #thelawnsmarket offers the very best in locally made and locally sourced apparel, swimwear, sunglasses, skincare, decor, bags, jewellery, kids wear, chocolate, art & stationary. Pinterest worthy plants or fresh flowers, you will be sure to leave with a few purchases in hand. You can follow the Facebook page to find out when the next one is.
