Love is in the air at Steenberg

The Mood at Steenberg, Megan Pedro

Unpack your masterfully created picnic box and enjoy it set out on the manicured lawns which frame the iconic Tryn restaurant and connect the historic buildings of Steenberg together. Social distancing never looked or felt this good and now you can share this with a loved one.

After three hours of lounging out on our picnic blanket under the canopies of trees and playing lawn games, we checked into our gorgeous one bedroom suite.

Opulence from floor to ceiling, surrounded by 360 degrees of luxury. Every angle of this one bedroom suite features luxurious finishes, aesthetic flair and desirable design while providing for all your practical needs. The oversized soaker tub takes centre stage in this marvel of an ensuite, opposite the ultra-plush king sized bed which guarantees a heavenly night’s sleep. So dim the lights, pop that Steenberg MCC and bring on the romance.

As the birds chirp overhead and the light warm summer breeze moves through and rustles the surrounding hedge enclosing the scented garden you and a loved one can relax in pure luxury during one of the many spa offerings. From specialized traditional treatments to the most underrated hand massage, rest assured that you are in the smooth and healing hands of the expertly knowledgeable spa therapists at Steenberg.

We enjoyed a side by side hour long oil massage as the sun set and the sounds and calls of nature put us in the ultimate relaxation.

Masterfully created mouthwatering dishes prepared by the skilful team at Tryn is what every spa treatment needs to be followed with. Modern dishes flavoured with a hint of the Cape, every dish is thoughtfully curated embracing texture, flavour and visual elegance. As the courses enfold time just seems to stand still while you dote on the glamour and beauty of the decor and setting, every angle of this lavish restaurant is perfectly paired with the breathtaking vistas of the surrounding mountains and greenery. This experience cannot be rushed.

With Covid restrictions hospitality establishments have been forced to adapt and offer extra touches that make any guests experience extra special. Our beautiful host offered us the option to enjoy our final course in our room. When we walked through the door, we were immediately greeted with the most beautiful luxury details. Scented candles on each bed side table, rose petals and moody lighting created the perfect second honeymoon feeling. Making our first Valentines Day as Mr and Mrs Pedro extra special.

One of our traditions on a Sunday evening is a well thought through and pampering self-care routine. From face masks to bubble baths. This pre-Valentine’s weekend was no different, a special after dinner treat was being drawn the most exquisite bath in our suite by my husband. I soaked in pure luxury and used the aromatherapy salts given to us, which is just another extra touch by the Steenberg family.

The following morning was about reconnecting and enjoying a cup of tea together before heading to the bistro for another innovative meal by Chef Kerry and her team.

You can either hop onto the back of the golf cart and have someone from steenberg drive you across to the bistro or you can take a short meander through the grounds. Just a stones throw from the hotel and spa is the culinary gem Bistro Sixteen82. Renowned for it’s gorgeous setting and delicious food, this exemplary institution in the South African culinary scene offers local flavours and showcases mouth watering dishes at its finest.

The bread course is definitely one of the most beloved extra special touches at a fine dining meal, however Chef Kerry and her team decided to surprise guests joining for breakfast with a honey bathed freshly baked brioche bun which is quite possibly one of the most incredible creations we have ever tasted. Lathered in butter, made it even better.

The breakfast menu has something for everyone. Looking for something sweet or savoury the sky is the limit. My smoked salmon rosti was perfectly prepared and a dish I look forward to going back and enjoying again soon.

After a delectably vivacious breakfast, chill poolside this Valentines month. Take some much deserved time out to enjoy the spectacular grounds and amenities at Steenberg. The magazine worthy pool area is the ideal setting to lounge around before heading to your next destination, should you need to ever leave.

Thank you to the incredible team at Steenberg at GC Communications for the most incredible second honeymoon to celebrate our first Valentines as husband and wife. The Steenberg team really do dot their i’s and cross their t’s and we can not wait to come back and experience it all. Now is the time to support our local estates. Share a picnic, look out for their spa specials and socially distance in a new and safe environment.
